Communicating in the Construction Trades
This practical course will help you
- comprehend routine task instructions using appropriate communication strategies.
- verbally report a job-related issue or need in a clear and appropriate manner.
- use communication strategies to effectively manage an interaction with a supervisor or co-worker.
This course is delivered in a blended format that integrates virtual or in-person classes and online activities. It is typically 40 hours delivered over 6–8 weeks, with approximately half the hours as scheduled class sessions (virtual or in-person).
Minimum eligibility requirements considered by colleges include:
- you have training or experience in the carpentry, bricklaying, electrical, plumbing or steamfitting trades.
- you have a valid language proficiency of at least level 5 in Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB). Some colleges may ask for a higher CLB level.
- you are familiar with computers and related technology.
- you are a permanent resident, convention refugee/protected person or temporary resident affected by the crisis in Gaza (showing “MOME2023” in status documentation until March 31, 2027).
- you live in Ontario.
