Workplace Communication Skills for Construction and Building Inspection

This practical course will help you

  • develop the language and communication skills needed to work as a building official, with a focus on building inspectors.

This course is delivered in a blended format that integrates virtual or in-person classes and online activities. It is typically 40 hours delivered over 6–8 weeks, with approximately half the hours as scheduled class sessions (virtual or in-person).

Minimum eligibility requirements considered by colleges include:

  • you have training or experience in skilled trades, construction management or supervision, architectural technology, engineering technology, or construction project management, including as a building official.
  • you have a valid language proficiency of at least level 5 in Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB). Some colleges may ask for a higher CLB level.
  • you are familiar with computers and related technology.
  • you are a permanent resident, convention refugee/protected person or temporary resident affected by the crisis in Gaza (showing “MOME2023” in status documentation until March 31, 2027).
  • you live in Ontario.

Some colleges may request additional information.
