Occupation-specific Language Training courses are delivered in a variety of formats to suit any schedule.

Ways to Learn

Occupation-specific Language Training (OSLT) helps develop the language skills you need to succeed at your workplace. All OSLT courses and modules are:

  • specific to your occupation.
  • delivered by experienced faculty from Ontario public colleges.
  • free for qualified applicants.

OSLT is delivered in blended and online formats. All modules and courses require access to a computer with video and audio capabilities as well as an internet connection.

Blended Courses

Blended courses integrate virtual or in-person classes with online activities. Virtual courses can be taken from anywhere in Ontario. Courses are delivered in five sectors that include over 25 occupations:

  • Business
  • Construction Trades
  • Health Sciences
  • Human Services
  • Technology.

All courses are offered in English; some are also offered in French. Courses are typically 140 or 180 hours delivered over 10–18 weeks, with approximately half the hours as scheduled class sessions (virtual or in-person).  Colleges will issue an OSLT credential for each course successfully completed.

For more information, see the list of blended courses. For a list of course offerings, visit Upcoming Courses.

Online Modules

OSLT online modules provide a flexible and convenient way to receive language training in English. All online modules are led by faculty and can be taken from anywhere in Ontario. Online modules are typically six weeks in length (40 hours) and offer a combination of online group and individual activities. Group sessions are usually weekly for 1.5 hours, while the rest of the course hours are spent on individual online activities.  Three online modules in one sector are equivalent to a full blended OSLT course. All three modules are available in the business, health care and technology sectors. They will help you:

  • learn how to access the business, construction trades, health sciences or technology job markets in Ontario.
  • communicate in the business, health sciences or technology sectors in Ontario.
  • manage workplace interactions in the business, health sciences or technology sectors in Ontario.

OSLT online also offers 40-hour courses (8 or 10 weeks) for eligible OSLT graduates on how to write professionally in the business, health sciences or technology sectors in Ontario. Please refer to your local college for eligibility requirements.

Colleges will issue an OSLT credential for each online module successfully completed.

See the list of online modules. For a list of course offerings, visit Upcoming Courses.
